Almost nobody is a natural at talking to a stranger on camera the very first time. Your match might be just as unsure, fixing the angle and deciding whether to wave. That wobble is normal on Yapping video chat, and it disappears once one of you says something.
Open with what you can see. A poster behind them, the colour of the light in their room, the fact that it is clearly breakfast where they are and bedtime where you are. A small, specific opener beats a flat hey almost every time, because it tells them you are actually looking.
On a slow connection the picture can stutter for a moment as a match begins. Give it a beat before deciding the other person froze on purpose; a stuck face is nearly always the network, not bad manners, and it usually sorts itself out.

You get a face, plus a little context
When a match connects, their video fills the screen with a small card on top listing nickname, age, country, level and language. That card is often the best conversation starter you will get, especially the country part.
They see the same card about you. Your nickname is whatever you chose, so there is no reason to use your real name, and the camera stays off until your browser has asked you and you agreed.

Random video chat works because leaving is painless. If the talk stalls, if the vibe is off, or if you are just curious who else is awake, press next. The other person moves on as well, and neither of you owes an explanation.

Video is the default for a reason, but it is only one of three modes. Before each match you choose video, voice or text. Choose voice mode and a stranger hears you without seeing you; choose text and it is keyboard only.
Whatever you pick stays put for that match. Started in text and now fancy going face to face? End the chat, set the mode to video and press start again. The next person you meet will see you on camera.
When one match turns into a proper conversation
Every so often you meet someone you would happily talk to again. Follow them from their profile and they are easy to spot in the Who's online list later. From that list you can request a private call with them, paid for in coins.

Small habits that make every video chat better
None of this is required, but it makes a noticeable difference to how people respond when your camera appears on their side.
- Put the light in front of you. With a lamp behind your head you become a talking shadow.
- Keep the camera around eye level instead of pointing it up from your lap.

Not within the same chat. End it, pick text or voice as your mode, and your next match begins that way.
Does Yapping record video chats?
Everyday chats are not saved as recordings. When a chat is reported, our team may review material tied to that session to decide whether a rule was broken.
Why is my camera not working on Yapping?
Usually the browser was never given permission. Allow camera and microphone for Yapping in your browser settings, close other apps that may be holding the camera, then reload the page.
Can I video chat with the same person again?
Random matching may never pair you twice. Follow the person instead, then start a private one-to-one call from the Who's online list, which uses coins.
Is Yapping cam chat only for adults?
Yes. Only adults may use camera chat on Yapping, and accounts that ignore that rule are removed.
