Yapping is a live chat service at yapping.video, and connecting you with strangers means certain details inevitably travel through our servers. Below you will find which details those are, what they get used for and where you get a say, in language we hope reads like a person wrote it.

The information we hold

We try to hold only what the features genuinely need. In practice that covers:

Account basics: your nickname, the email address or sign-in provider you used, the age you gave us and settings such as your language.
Anything you put on your profile yourself, like a photo or a few lines about you, and the list of people you follow or who follow you.
Messages sent on Yapping, whether typed during a match, in a live room or in direct messages.
Match and call history, meaning the time of each chat, whether it was video, voice or text, and about how long it lasted.
Coin, gift and VIP history, plus the confirmation our payment partner sends once a purchase goes through. Your full card number stays with that partner.
Reports you make, reports made about you, and the notes our team adds while reviewing them.
Technical bits like the browser and device you use, a rough idea of your region based on your IP, and crash or error logs we rely on to keep Yapping stable.

Camera, microphone and live chats

Sound and video stream live from your side to your match and back. Routine recording of everyday chats is not something Yapping does. If a chat gets reported, reviewers may check what is attached to that report, for example typed messages or a snapshot, before deciding whether the rules were broken.

Camera and microphone access is decided by your browser, not by us. Yapping only touches them once you have said yes, that yes can be taken back from the browser menu whenever you choose, and text mode never needs either.

How we use it

To find you a match and carry the video, voice or text chat that follows.
To translate a typed message when you press its translate button.
To remember your coin balance, past purchases, VIP membership and chosen settings.
To review reports, stop people who break the rules and protect users from harm.
To fix bugs, block fraud and learn which parts of Yapping people actually use.
To answer you when you contact support.

Who else can see it

Your match sees what you choose to show: the nickname, age, country, level and language on your card, plus whatever your camera picks up if you are in video mode. Profile photos and bios are public to fellow members.

Behind the scenes, companies that provide hosting, streaming, translation, payments and analytics process data for us, only for those tasks. We do not sell or rent your personal information to advertisers or data brokers. We will only hand information to others where a legal duty forces us to, or where doing so could stop someone getting seriously hurt.

How long we keep it

Account data stays while your account is open. Match records, reports and payment history are kept for as long as we need them for safety, fraud prevention, accounting and legal obligations, then deleted or anonymised.

When an account is deleted, its profile disappears from Yapping and the personal data attached to it is erased or anonymised, except for records we are required to retain for the reasons above.

Your choices

Change your nickname, photo and profile details from your account at any time.
Switch camera and microphone access on or off in your browser settings.
Ask for a copy of your personal data or for corrections by emailing [email protected].
Ask for your account to be deleted from the email address registered to it.

Adults only

Nobody under 18 is allowed on Yapping, and we have no wish to hold their information. When an account looks like it was opened by a minor, we shut it and remove what it contains. Spotted someone who seems too young? Let us know through the contact page.

Changes to this policy

Whenever we revise this page in a meaningful way, the last updated line changes, and big revisions also get a notice inside Yapping. If you keep chatting after a revision, you are agreeing to the revised policy.
