Yapping is simple once you have done it a single time. This page walks through the whole routine in order, so your very first chat feels like your fifth.
Pick how you want to talk
On the match screen you choose a mode before anything else happens: video, voice or text. That choice holds for the entire match. It is the single decision you make up front, and you make it fresh before every new match.
Not sure which to pick? Video is the liveliest, voice is the kindest on nerves, and text chat works anywhere, even squashed into a crowded train.
A quick check of camera, mic and light
Video and voice lean on your browser, so a short check saves a clumsy first hello. Sit facing a lamp or a window rather than with it behind you, and lean the phone against something steady so it is not wobbling in your hand. Earbuds help more than people expect: they cut the echo, and nobody else in the room hears your match.
If you tapped block by accident when the browser asked for the camera or microphone, open the site settings from the address bar, switch the permission back on and reload the page. Text mode needs none of this, which is one reason so many people try it first.
Press start and let the queue do its thing
Press start and Yapping looks for someone else waiting in the same mode. The first time you use video or voice, your browser asks for camera or microphone permission; allow it once and that device will not ask again.
When a match lands you see the other person, along with a card listing their nickname, age, country, level and language. They get the same card about you.
If nobody appears right away, hang on for a moment. The queue is always shifting as people finish chats and press start again, so a match rarely keeps you waiting long.
Talk, or tap next
Typed lines can be translated with a tap, which means not speaking the same language is rarely a dealbreaker.
- Say hi. Their local clock makes an easy first question.
- Carry on while the conversation is still good.
- Press next whenever you are done. The other person moves on too, and nobody needs a reason.
- If someone breaks the rules, tap report before you leave so our team can deal with it.
What the next button actually does
Next ends the conversation for both sides at once. There is no goodbye screen and no rating to fill in; the chat closes, the other person goes back to the queue, and Yapping starts looking for your next match in the mode you already chose.
Want to change mode? Step back to the match screen, pick another one, and press start again. And if the chat you just left was a good one, follow the person from their profile before tapping next, because a random queue rarely hands you the same stranger twice.
Start as a guest, sign in when it suits you
Guests get the full match screen straight away. The only thing a guest session lacks is memory across devices: switch from your phone to a laptop and that browser does not know who you are.
Signing in fixes that. Your coin balance, the people you follow, your messages and your settings come along to any device where you log in. Some people sign in right away; others wait until they have a reason, like a balance worth keeping.
Where free matches end and coins begin
Every new member gets a set of free matches to begin with. Above the match screen, the Reward Center tops that up: a timer counts down, you claim whatever it offers when it hits zero, and a new timer begins right then. Once the free matches are spent, more matches use coins.
Coins also pay for a few extras: calling a person you picked from the Who's online list in private, sending gifts, and getting into ticketed live rooms. The complete breakdown is on is Yapping free.
Profiles, follows and live rooms
Yapping is more than random matches. You have a profile, you can follow people you enjoyed talking to, and you can send them messages. Anyone currently around appears in the Who's online list, and its Live tab gathers the people streaming in live rooms.
Inside a live room you can swipe between streams, chat with translation, send gifts and ask the person streaming for a private call. Some rooms are open to everyone; others want a ticket, a follow or a paid account first.
Private calls, gifts and how coins get spent
Random matches are one thing; calling a particular person is another. Pick someone from the Who's online list or from a live room and you can request a private one-to-one video call, paid in coins. If your balance cannot cover it, Yapping takes you to top up first rather than starting a paid call you cannot afford.
Gifts work the same careful way. Before a gift leaves your balance, on a call or in a room with a live stream, a confirmation pops up so an accidental tap costs nothing. Members with VIP status see member pricing on top-ups, and the VIP badge next to a nickname can be hidden if you prefer.
The two rules that matter most
Yapping is for adults 18 and over, and everyone is expected to treat strangers the way they would like to be treated. Explicit behaviour, harassment and scams get accounts removed. How does Yapping work?
Choose a mode, tap start and the queue hands you one random stranger. Chat while it is good, then hit next for somebody else.
Do I need an account to use Yapping?
No. Guests can jump in immediately, and logging in later carries your coins, follows and preferences over to any new device.
How does Yapping match people?
Matching is random among people waiting in the same mode at the same moment. Apart from the mode, there is nothing to set up beforehand.
What does my match see about me?
Your camera or voice if you picked those modes, plus your nickname, age, country, level and language.
How do I skip someone on Yapping?
Press next. The chat ends for both of you straight away and the queue starts finding your next match.
How do free matches work on Yapping?
You begin with a starter batch of free ones. The Reward Center adds extra ones whenever you claim after its timer finishes. After that, matches are paid with coins.
Is there a way to find a good match again?
Follow them from their profile. They then appear in your Who's online list when they are around, and you can message them or request a private call.
What languages can I use on Yapping?
Any language you like. The translate button on typed messages shows them in your own language when a match writes in another.
Can Yapping charge me without asking?
No. When a match or a private call needs more coins than you hold, Yapping asks you to top up first, and every gift shows a confirmation before it is sent.
What is the Live tab on Yapping?
It is where people streaming in live rooms show up. Pop into a room, type in the chat with translation, send a gift, or request a private call with the person streaming.
