What can actually go wrong on random chat
Most matches are harmless: people being curious, silly or a bit awkward. The genuine risks come from a small minority, and they tend to look alike. Someone who flashes or says something explicit. Someone who turns hostile. Someone who is sweet for a while and then asks for money, a code or your socials.
Recognising those patterns is most of the battle. None of them deserve an argument from you. They deserve the report button, followed by next.
It also helps to remember that everyone on Yapping arrived exactly the way you did: with a nickname and a start button. Nobody in the queue has been vetted as trustworthy, including anyone who insists that they have.

None of this turns a stranger into someone trustworthy, but it does make bad behaviour costly for whoever tries it.

Habits that keep you in charge
The people who have the best time on Yapping all do roughly the same few things. They are not paranoid; they simply keep the chat on Yapping and the personal details to themselves.
Leave your full name, workplace, address and school out of the conversation. If a new match is in a hurry to move you onto some other app, treat that as a red flag. Never send money, gift cards or verification codes to someone from a match, whatever the story is. And if you would rather stay off camera, text chat pairs you with strangers exactly as video does, only with your lens switched off.
If a chat leaves you uneasy after it ends, give yourself a break. There is no penalty for closing the tab, and the queue will still be there tomorrow.

The tricks worth recognising instantly
All of these have the same fix: say no, report, press next. Nobody from Yapping will ever ask for your password or a code inside a chat.
- The emergency: a match suddenly needs money for a ticket, a bill or a relative in hospital.
- The code trick: someone asks you to read back a number that was just texted to your phone.
- The move-off: pressure to carry on somewhere else, where no report button exists.

For adults who keep personal details to themselves, yes. Yapping is 18+, every chat has a report button, and reports are reviewed by people on our team.
Is Yapping chat moderated?
Yes. Reports from video, voice and text chats go to our safety team, who can warn users or remove accounts that break the rules.
Can people on Yapping see my real name?
Only if you tell them. The card a match sees shows a nickname plus age, country, level and language, so choose a nickname that is not your full name.

Can someone record me on Yapping?
No website can stop someone filming their own screen with a second phone, so treat anything shown on camera as potentially saved. If that worries you, use voice or text mode.
Does Yapping sell my data?
